Kinshasa (D.R. Congo) Quakers Organize Election Monitoring Planning Meeting

(July 30, 2010)

Continuing their concern for strengthening democracy in their country, Kinshasa Friends, through their service committee, Muinda Project for Peace, are organizing an election monitoring strategy, networking with other Quaker organizations in Africa.  Their launching event and planning workshop will take place on August 28, 2010. Special thanks to Ottawa Monthly Meeting for increasing their annual contribution to this project in order to make this event possible. Here is a complete description  of the event.

Aboriginal Peoples and Civil Society Call for Meaningful Endorsement of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (June 18, 2010)

In an Open Letter, 39 Aboriginal and civil society organizations across Canada are calling on Prime Minister Stephen Harper to endorse the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples without qualifications and in a manner consistent with international human rights law.

Letter to government regarding Gaza flotilla (June 4, 2010)

CFSC's response to Israel's attack on the flotilla taking humanitarian supplies to Gaza on 31 May 2010 emphasizes the legal issues involved in the boarding of the ship, the disproportionate use of force, and the need for an end of the blockade of Gaza.
